Just a few days ago, Florence and the Machine released their new live album Symphony of Lungs – BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. The set was recorded in September as the indie pop-rock band performed their debut full-length alongside Jules Buckley and his orchestra in an effort to put a new spin on the original collection. The classical-leaning show and project celebrates the fifteenth anniversary of Lungs.
Following that exciting concert, and months before Symphony of Lungs arrives on a physical format, the original Lungs returns to the charts in the United Kingdom. At the same time the album finds its way back to several tallies, one of the biggest hits from the project is also a winner once again.
Lungs returns to two rankings in the U.K. this frame. The first full-length from Florence and the Machine is a bestseller again, as both tallies it lands on are focused entirely on sales…though there’s a big difference between how the title performed, based on the many ways it can be consumed.
Florence and the Machine’s debut studio effort lands at No. 95 on the Official Albums Sales chart. It rises significantly higher on the Official Albums Downloads ranking, as it re-enters that list at No. 21.
Unsurprisingly, Lungs has previously ruled the downloads-only tally. Somehow, despite selling incredibly well on online storefronts like iTunes and Amazon, the set has never even broken into the top 10 on the Official Albums Sales chart. On that all-format, all-style ranking, Florence and the Machine stalled at No. 16 with the full-length that introduced them to the world.
One of the smashes that emerged from Lungs was “Dog Days Are Over,” and that song is a hit again as well. The upbeat, optimistic cut returns at No. 70 on the Official Singles Downloads chart, and five spaces lower on the Official Singles Sales list.
Lungs dropped in July 2009, and the band spent years promoting the title all around the globe. The album eventually climbed to No. 1 in the United Kingdom, giving the group their first of several leaders. “Dog Days Are Over,” the second single pushed from the project, only climbed to No. 21 on the main songs ranking, though it’s still remembered today as one of the group’s signature tracks.
