LOOGOOTEE - Vincennes Rivet prevented North Daviess from reaching the Class A volleyball sectional championship at Loogootee as the Lady Patriots used the familial size to claim the match in three sets by the scores of 25-15, 25-12, 25-21.
Rivet’s tall and athletic senior-junior sister duo of Mary and Claudia Herman combined to stymie the offensive attack of the Lady Cougars though ND senior Lanie Cornelius again led the team in kills. North Daviess continued to battle until the final point and led as late as 21-20 in set three before the Pats closed with the last five tallies.
North Daviess concluded their season at 16-14 and says goodbye to five key seniors. Cornelius and Kelsye Riggins served as two of the squad’s main offensive weapons while Amaya McBride has been the varsity’s primary setter the past two-plus seasons. Libero Elayna Smith and defensive specialist Tori Smith supplied plenty of back row prowess. The return of Alexis Tolbert, Adalyn Smith, and Kambria Graber give North Daviess a trio of core returnees for next season.
Loogootee went on to capture the title on Saturday evening with a four-set victory versus Rivet and will play at Loogootee in a 1A regional.
